FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment and represents a pipeline testing instrument and a testing method using this instrument. The instrument includes a magnetisation assembly including at least two spiral pole magnets spaced at equal distances throughout the instrument length, each of which is twisted spirally around the instrument housing by less than one-half turn to create a magnetic field inclined relative to longitudinal axis of the instrument and the pipe, which covers the inner surface of the pipe wall through 360°. A group of magnetic flux sensors, which has a spiral shape, is located around the instrument housing between adjacent pairs of pole magnets and at equal distance from them.

EFFECT: possible detection of axial, circular and volumetric abnormalities per pass without any forced rotation of the magnetisation assembly.
