FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of application of wear-resistant coatings to a cutting tool and can be used in metal working. Vacuum-plasma application of a wear-resistant coating is performed, which consists of nitride or carbonitride of titanium, silicon, aluminium, zirconium and chrome at their ratio, wt %: titanium 60.8, silicon 0.6, aluminium 5.3, zirconium 26.0, chrome 7.3. Application of the coating is performed with three cathodes located horizontally in one plane, the first one of which consists of an alloy of titanium, silicon and aluminium, the second one consists of zirconium and chrome and is located opposite to the first one, and the third one is made from titanium and located between them.
EFFECT: improving operability of a cutting tool.
