FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering of production of radioactive isotopes for medical purposes. The disclosed method includes a process of extracting molybdenum-99 from a solution of an irradiated uranium target at the concentration and refinement steps to obtain a molybdenum-99 preparation, wherein concentration of molybdenum-99 from a nitric acid solution of a uranium target on an inorganic sorbent is carried out in one or two steps, desorption of molybdenum before the refinement step is carried out using a non-salting thermally decomposable reagent. Further, the refinement step includes anion-exchange and high-temperature purification and only high-temperature purification of the preparation, wherein a total of not less than two sorption steps are carried out at the molybdenum concentration and refinement steps.
EFFECT: high chemical and radiochemical purity of the molybdenum-99 preparation while meeting world market requirements for the preparation and maintaining an acceptable process yield.
