FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: preliminary cut-off of slag inside the working space of the furnace is performed by supply of inert gas flow to the surface of contact of metal with slag and tapping of liquid metal, while using the difference of temperatures of metal and slag measured by means of the radiation pyrometer the finish of tapping of liquid metal through the outlet of the tap hole and the start of supply of slag into the tap hole are detected.
EFFECT: invention allows to increase the accuracy of control of process of a cut-off of slag from metal at the output from the furnace and to create conditions on protection of the surface of liquid metal cleared of slag from influence of the oxidizing atmosphere in working space of the furnace.
