FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: method of making a lens, having a front and a back surface and which is penetrated by light beams emitted by the optical element of a light beam generating system, through an entrance surface and directed towards the eyes of the owner to enable the viewing of information content through a transparent optical insert formed by a light guide. The insert has a shape substantially identical to the shape of a finished lens which is suitable for mounting in a holder. The method comprises steps of making an insert, the shape of which is smaller than the shape of said finished lens according to a proportional transformation, making a lens workpiece by joining plastic material which forms said front surface and said back surface with said insert and cutting said lens workpiece around said insert with a distance from the edges of said insert which is about 1 mm along at least 50% of the perimeter of said insert.
EFFECT: providing good optical transmission and simple manufacture of an optical display containing two materials having very different hardness.
