FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering and can be used to generate quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM16) signals used on multichannel digital communication lines, digital radio broadcasting and television. In the method of generating QAM16 signals, all incoming information bits are divided into blocks of 4 bits each, and the quadrature u i n i t Q and in-phase u i n i t I components are keyed depending on values of information bits of each block, for which said values are respectively multiplied by coefficients 18/16, 17/16, 15/16, 14/16, 10/16, 9/16, 7/16, 6/16. Upon reception, the keyed values of the in-phase u k I and quadrature u k Q components are summed according to the formula ( u k Q ) 2 + ( u k I ) 2 .

EFFECT: generating a QAM16 signal, which enables to reconstruct a transmitted combination of four bit symbols in case of continuous reception of one of voltage vectors transmitted in pairs as a result of equipment breakdown or a low signal-to-noise ratio in the channel.
