FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: coherent laser target locator comprises a single-frequency CO2-laser, a transmitting telescope, a receiving lens and a photodetector operating in homodyne photomixing mode. The photodetector is four-quadrant; the outputs of each of the equal-sized quadrants, which form azimuthal and elevation summation-difference channels in pairs, are connected to two inputs of a unit for controlling drives - azimuthal and elevation - of the orientation of mutually collinear optical axes of the transmitting telescope and the receiving lens. Said photomixing at the output of the photodetector enables to generate a signal having two components substantially spaced-apart on the spectrum. One of the components characterises the range to an object and the other its velocity.
EFFECT: simple structure of the range measurement channel and providing automatic tracking of a moving target from angular coordinates.
