METHOD AND ASSEMBLY FOR DETECTION OF INNER FAULT IN Y-Y-CONNECTED BANK OF CAPACITORS Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC G01R31/36

Abstract RU 2563321 C2

FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention is referred to fault control in a bank of capacitors, at that the bank of capacitors comprises a multitude of capacitor units divided into two Y-sections. The essence of the invention: the method includes the measurement of a phase current (100), calculation of a root-mean square value (RMS) for measured phase currents (110), measurement of an unbalance current between the two sections (120), calculation of RMS value for the measured unbalance currents (130), detection of a phase angle between the measured phase current and the measured unbalance current (140), calculation of the unbalance current in relative units based on the calculated RMS value for the measured phase current and calculated RMS value for the measured unbalance current (145), monitoring and detection of the unbalance current change between the recent calculated value of the unbalance current in relative units and the previous calculated value (150), determination of vector discontinuous variation in the unbalance current (160), standardisation of a phase angle for the vector discontinuous variation so that it has one of the values of 0°, 60°, 120°, 180°, 240° and 300° (170), identification of the number of inner faults and their respective locations based on the determined vector discontinuous variation in the unbalance current and standardised phase angle (200) and initiation of an alarm signal or emergency shutdown, when the total number of inner faults exceeds the first and second threshold values respectively (210).

EFFECT: increasing reliability and sensitivity.
