FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering and specifically to a method of producing dinitrates of vicinal 1,2-glycols which can be used as components of explosive compositions, solvents and medical preparations. Method consists in that initial 1,2-glycols at the first stage are sulphated with concentrated (95–97 wt. %) sulfuric acid with formation of corresponding acid sulphates with their further treatment at the second stage with sulfur-nitrogen nitrating mixture in presence of organochlorine solvents.
EFFECT: disclosed method increases safety of the process of producing dinitrates of 1,2-glycols.
