FIELD: medicine, pharmaceutics.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to medicine, more specifically to new gold nanocrystals and shape distribution of nanocrystals with surfaces free from organic contaminations or films. The surfaces are pure if compared to those of gold nanoparticles produced by chemical reduction processes requiring the use of organic reducing agents and/or surfactants, for the growth of gold nanoparticles from gold ions in the solution. There are described pharmaceutical compositions and the use of gold nanocrystals or suspensions or colloids thereof for treating or preventing diseases or conditions caused by pathological cell activation, such as inflammatory conditions, autoimmune conditions, hypersensitivity reactions and/or malignant diseases or MIF (macrophage migration inhibitory factor) mediated conditions. The nanocrystals have the surfaces free from organic contaminations or films.

EFFECT: there are described new systems for electrochemical production and methods for producing gold nanocrystals.
