FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to measure complex transfer constants of channels of an active phased antenna array (APAA) and calibrate an APAA in radar and communication systems. A method for built-in calibration of an active phased antenna array includes: generating a control microwave signal; distributing the control signal to inputs of each transmitting and receiving channel of the APAA; summation of the control signal transmitted via APAA channels; detecting said signal; measuring the strength of the signal from the detector while switching the phase changer of the measured channel to each of L=2p states, where p is the number of bits of the phase changer; using one common divider/adder of the control signal; calibrating the receiving and transmitting channels separately and independent of each other, wherein the APAA includes all transmitting or all receiving channels, the phase changers of which, except those of the measured and reference channels, are switched to a 0° or 180° state according to the law of a common M sequence; the calibration signal path includes controlled switches, as well as a band-pass filter before the detector.

EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring complex transfer constants of channels of an active phased antenna array, calibration quality and a wider field of use.
