METHOD AND DEVICE TO MONITOR EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF STEEL Russian patent published in 2015 - IPC G01N17/00

Abstract RU 2570704 C1

FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: monitored element of steelwork is magnetised in maximum extent in form of strip by permanent field, then it is demagnetised by the pre-determined weak variable field to remove unstable residual magnetism. Magnetograms of components of scattering field are scanned. As per points of abrupt change of this field intensity gradient the zones are determined, and power of possible galvanic couplings during steel operation in the specific corrosion environment is estimated. Movable device implementing the method is magnetising unit made out of permanent magnets with alternating opposite magnetic poles, at that magnets roll or slide in the direct contact with surface of the monitored part; demagnetising unit comprising AC generator and electric magnet; metering unit with ferroprobe magnetometer with sensors, and with wheel-distance counter; movement device, for example, trolley; control box.

EFFECT: increased efficiency and resolution to sort steel products as per local corrosion activity and corrosion compatibility of connected elements of the steelworks both at entrance inspection stage of rolled steel, and at stage of assemblage to long steelworks.
