SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering, more specifically to converting file formats to enhance capabilities of application programs and web browsers to display documents. A method of displaying content on a computer comprises receiving from a web browser a request to view content in the native format of the content. After receiving the request, parts of the content embodied in its native format are transformed into parts of content converted for viewing, embodied in a file format compatible with the web browser. During transformation of parts of the content, parts of the content converted for viewing are displayed in the web browser in steps. The converted content is configured to provide a full accurate representation of the content through the web browser without calling an external viewer.
EFFECT: shorter delay when displaying a document during conversion of the format of the document into a format suitable for display by a web browser.
