FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: ion source with photoionisation at atmospheric pressure is in the form of a hollow nitrogen gas stream which blows the heated outlet of a capillary chromatographic column and simultaneously functions as an ionisation chamber by separating an external background gas (laboratory air) from a carrier gas stream coming from the chromatographic column together with the ionised substance inside the hollow nitrogen gas stream. A source of ionising ultraviolet radiation is placed orthogonal to the gas stream. Ions formed along the axis of the gas stream, together with the stream, are transmitted to the input of an analyser interface. To prevent secondary ion-molecule reactions in the interface, the gas stream is selected slightly larger than the maximum the interface (input diaphragm) can allow through, which prevents drawing laboratory air with impurities and distortion of analytical information.
EFFECT: preventing blur of the optical window and contamination of the ionisation chamber and high sensitivity of the device.
