FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: method for a continuous increase in an external diameter and a lumen diameter of a patient's peripheral vein for creating an arteriovenous fistula or an arteriovenous graft by means of a system for a continuous increase in an external diameter and a lumen diameter of a patient's peripheral vein. One end of a pump/tube assembly is brought in a fluid connection to a donor vessel. The other end of the pump/tube assembly is brought in a fluid connection to a peripheral vein. The blood is pumped from the donor vessel into the peripheral vein at a flow rate and over a period of time adequate to induce the continuous increase in the external diameter and the lumen diameter of the peripheral vein. The blood pumping causes a shearing stress of a receiving vein wall of 0.76 Pa or more. The blood pumping also causes an average pulse pressure in the receiving vein of less than 40 mm Hg. Once the blood pumping is completed, the increase remains unchanged for a period of time adequate to detach the pump, the tube and to create the arteriovenous fistula or the arteriovenous graft with using a portion of the peripheral vein comprising the overall diameter increased.
EFFECT: creating the arteriovenous fistula or the arteriovenous graft that remains increased for a period of time adequate to form an access site.
