FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: in the proposed optical method for the measurement of atmospheric precipitation with the help of a source of radiation, a linear sensor and an optical system they generate a measurement area, dimensions of which are adapted depending on the current intensity of precipitation, then the horizontal size of precipitation particle shadows are recorded according to the quantity of shadowed light sensitive elements of the linear sensor, the measurement information flow is transmitted, and the sought-for the parameters of atmospheric precipitation are calculated.

EFFECT: possibility to adjust the data flow generated by an optical precipitation meter, to prevent exceeding of the communication channel throughput capacity.
