FIELD: biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biochemistry, in particular to a composition for counteracting, preventing or protecting animals against bluetongue virus infection BTV, wherein the composition comprises an effective amount of antigen BTV VP2 and VP5 antigen BTV, and wherein the antigens are expressed in a duckweed plant. Also disclosed are a stably transformed duckweed plant for expression of the BTV antigen being a component of said composition, and a plasmid designed for transformation of said plant and for production of the BTV antigen being a component of said composition. Disclosed is a method for vaccination of the host susceptible to BTV, and a method for making BTV antigen.
EFFECT: the invention offers the possibility to protect animals from the bluetongue virus infection BTV.
