FIELD: information technology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to video encoding and can be used for encoding transform coefficients. Method comprises steps of: determining a binary string indicating a position of a last significant coefficient within a block of transform coefficients associated with a video block; wherein binary string includes a prefix portion and a suffix portion; determining a context for a binary index of prefix portion of binary string based on a transform block size, wherein context is assigned to at least two binary indices in accordance with context index, wherein each of at least two binary indices are associated with different transform block sizes; and encoding binary string using context adaptive binary arithmetic coding based at least in part on determined context.
EFFECT: optimising encoding transform coefficients.
