FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a catalyst suitable for use in the method for steam reforming. Method includes the stages: (i) spraying a suspension containing crushed compound-catalyst, containing one or more catalytic metals selected from a group comprising Ni, Cu, Pt, Ru, Rh, Pd and Au, on the surface of said substrate containing oxide substrate, selected from a group comprising aluminium oxide, cerium dioxide, magnesium oxide, titanium dioxide or zirconium dioxide, calcium or magnesium aluminate and mixtures thereof, in tank device for application of coatings to produce moulded substrate material with coating containing catalytic metal in surface layer in which content of solids in suspension is in the range 10-60 wt %, (ii) drying and optionally calcining the moulded material substrate to produce catalyst precursor, and (iii) optionally recovery of metal or metals in the catalyst precursor to state with lower degree of oxidation to produce catalyst.

EFFECT: invention enables more effective use of catalytically active metal for minimizing production costs.
