FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to a method of making a component coated with a layer of refractory solder. Method comprises applying a mechanical mixture, which is a powder of at least one silica source wherein each particle is a silicon source and a powder of at least one boron source, wherein each particle is a boron source onto at least a portion of a substrate surface, containing a base material with a solidus temperature above 1,100 °C. Particles have an average size of less than 250 mcm. At least one boron source and at least one silicon source are anoxic. Weight ratio of boron and silicon in mixture ranges from 3:100 to 100:3. Silicon and boron are present together in mixture at a concentration of at least 25 wt%; heating substrate to a temperature lower than solidus temperature of base material of substrate; cooling substrate and receiving on substrate layer of refractory solder containing silica source, boron source and base material. Refractory solder layer has a lower melting point than base material.
EFFECT: reduced amount of high-melting additive, increased strength of soldered joints.
