SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a system and a method for drying particles, for example, plant material such as tobacco particles, shorts of tobacco, leaf tobacco, tobacco stems or tobacco scraps. Another plant material may be, for example, tea leaves, peppermint leaves, aromatic herbs or cloves. System comprises a tower (2) through which particles move in a first direction and through which stream (50) of gaseous drying medium moves in a second direction, first direction is opposite to second direction. Particle drying system (1) further comprises adjustment means adapted to change flow characteristics of particles inside tower. Said adjustment means comprise side wall (4) of tower (2), wherein side wall (4) is movable at least in a direction perpendicular to longitudinal extension of tower. Present invention also relates to a method of drying particles moving by gravity.

EFFECT: invention must enable to obtain uniform quality of plant material particles.
