SUBSTANCE: method comprises measuring the magnetic field intensity component at equally spaced-apart points on the surface of the inspected article; further, determining the magnetic field gradient for each pair of adjacent inspection points and, based on the obtained gradient values, finding a stress concentration zone (SCZ); for the SCZ, calculating a magnetic indicator mlim, characterising the limiting stress condition of the article before breaking, and a magnetic indicator ma, characterising the actual stress condition of the article; using the obtained values of mlim and ma, estimating the limiting operating time of the article: Tlim=(mlim/ma)·Ta, where Ta is the actual operating time of the article. The remaining operating life Trem of the article is determined using the formula: Trem=Tlim-Ta.
EFFECT: method improves the accuracy of checking current and residual stress in an article and enables to determine the limiting condition of the article before breaking and the remaining life of the article.
