FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optics and can be used when determining phase composition of nanopowders of yttrium oxide. This method of determining monoclinic metastable phase of yttrium oxide by shift of optical absorption of ions Nd3+ or other rare-earth elements in nanocrystallites for determining degree of absorption of radiation in the wavelength range 200-1,100 nm are made samples of yttrium oxide nanopowder in monoclinic and cubic phases of round shape with diameter of 15 mm and thickness of 200÷600 micrones by pressing under pressure of 50-150 MPa without additives. Maximum of the most intensive absorption band of ion neodymium Nd3+ in monoclinic phase of yttrium oxide is displaced by 0.5 nm relatively the cubic phase.
EFFECT: invention allows detecting monoclinic phase of yttrium oxide nanopowder.
