FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to paints, dyes and other coating compositions, particularly to alkyd-based compositions, containing metal driers, such as iron and manganese-containing compounds which exhibit low susceptibility to formation of a surface film during storage. Invention relates to a method which involves bringing an oxidation-curable alkyd-based coating composition containing an organic solvent as solvent into contact with an aqueous solution containing a complex of Fe or Mn with accelerating polydentate nitrogen-containing ligand of formula (I):
where each R is independently selected from hydrogen F, Cl, Br, hydroxyl, C1-C4-alkyl-o-, -NH-CO-H, -NH-CO-C1-C4-alkyl, -NH2, -NH-C1-C4-alkyl C1-C4-alkyl; R1 and R2 are independently selected from C1-C24-alkyl C6-C10-aryl and a group consisting of one or two heteroatoms, able to coordinate with Fe or Mn; R3 and R4 are independently selected from hydrogen, C1-C8-alkyl, C1-C8-alkyl-O-C1-C8-alkyl, C1-C8-alkyl-O-C6-C10-aryl, C6-C10-aryl, C1-C8-hydroxyalkyl and - (CH2)nC(C)OR5, where R5 is independently selected from hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl, n has values from 0 to 4 and X is selected from C=O, -[C(R6)2]y-, where y is from 0 to 3 and each R6 is independently selected from hydrogen, hydroxyl, C1-C4-alkoxy C1-C4-alkyl.
EFFECT: compounds which exhibit low susceptibility to formation of surface film during storage.
