FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an oxidatively cured coating composition. Composition comprises an alkyd resin cured by oxidation and a chelating agent of formula in which each of the R1, R2, R3 and R4 is independently H, C1-C24 alkyl, C6-C10 aryl, or a group comprising a heteroatom capable of coordinating a metal ion; Q is methylene or ethylene in which one or more hydrogen atoms can be optionally independently substituted with C1-C24 alkyl or C6-C10 aryl; and Q' is ethylene or n-propylene in which one or more hydrogen atoms can be optionally independently substituted with C1-C24 alkyl or C6-C10 aryl. Chelating agent can optionally form a complex compound with a transition metal ion. Invention also describes methods for preparing such compositions and compositions obtained by curing such compositions.
EFFECT: accelerated curing of coating compositions.
