FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: method for generation of modulated corona discharge consists in generation of linear corona flare discharge in discharge gap formed by anode and cathode with highly divergent electric field distribution both in anode and cathode areas. Own space charge generated in discharge gap is neutralized by repetitively-pulsed wavetails of voltage pulse with nanosecond duration, at that frequency of cathode voltage modulation is regulated from 20 kHz and more. The device comprises high-voltage source of quasicontinuous current, anode and cathode made as nickel-chromium threads, for example. Anode is connected to positive output of the source directly, while cathode is connected to negative output of the source through a controlled switch.
EFFECT: increased value of average discharge current, increased power contributed to discharge gap.
