FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in hydrometallurgy of rare metals and is intended for extraction of scandium from chloride solutions. For method implementation the extraction of scandium uses a mixture of tributyl phosphate with elementary iodine, taken in amount of 12.5-76 g/l, metal is re-extracted with water. Extraction of scandium chloride salts is achieved due to formation of hydrophobic complex anions of extracted compounds. Specificity of interaction of chlorides of scandium with elementary iodine provides high selectivity of extraction of scandium from chloride solutions of complex composition at low reactant consumption. In the process of elementary iodine permanently resides in organic phase and loss thereof with aqueous solutions.

EFFECT: method simplifies the process of extracting and purifying scandium and reduced consumption of reagents.
