FIELD: optics.
SUBSTANCE: device for ophthalmic lens comprises insert with variable optical properties, located at least in part of optical area of lens. Insert comprises curved front and rear surfaces, forming at least part of one chamber; power source built-in into insert in non-optical zone; and layer containing liquid crystal material located inside at least one chamber. Liquid crystal molecules inside layer are ordered in hybrid structure. Structure of ordering of liquid crystal molecules near curved front surface differs from structure of ordering of liquid crystal molecules near curved back surface.
EFFECT: reduction of minimum electrical potential required for shifting orientation of liquid crystal molecules, due to structure of ordering of liquid crystal molecules.
