FIELD: medicine; optical system.
SUBSTANCE: ophthalmic lens device with an insert having variable optical power or polarisation angle, has optical and non-optical zones and comprises: insert comprising at least a portion within optical zone and comprising an insert front curve piece and an insert back curve piece; first layer of electrode material in close proximity to rear surface of insert front curve piece; second layer of electrode material in close proximity to front surface of insert back curve piece; dielectric film on one of first layer of electrode material and second layer of electrode material, wherein dielectric film has a field of varying thickness in part within optical zone; and a power source, embedded in insert in an area containing a non-optical zone. Insert comprises a layer which contains a liquid crystal material, wherein layer is formed from drops of liquid crystal material; and wherein drops of liquid crystal material have average diameter of less than 1 micrometer. Another version of ophthalmic lens with an insert with variable optical power or polarisation angle, has an insert intermediate curve piece between insert front and back curve pieces.
EFFECT: using given group of inventions enables to extend range of equipment, specifically ophthalmic lenses.
