SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building and can be used in disc-drum brakes, road and construction machines and railway transport. Method of determining surface areas of metal discs with different power consumption within disc-drum brakes consists in the fact that the ratio of radiation coefficients of matte and polished surfaces of solid and self-ventilating discs with intense convective and radiation heat exchange by ambient air flows is determined as ratio of area values of cooled surfaces to heated surface area of circular belt friction of solid disk and ration for self-ventilating disc is based on cubic root of area of cooled surfaces to heated surface area of circular belt friction.

EFFECT: possibility of determining the ratio of areas of heated and cooled surfaces of solid and self-ventilating discs with different power consumption depending on their design materials.
