FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method for producing water-soluble copolymers of N-vinyl amides containing aldehyde groups via radical copolymerisation of N-vinyl pyrrolidone or N-methyl-N-vinyl acetamide and unsaturated monomer containing protected aldehyde group, with subsequent removal of protective group, characterised by that unsaturated monomer used is allilidene diacetate, which is copolymerised with N-vinyl amide in mass or in alcohol solution under inert atmosphere, in presence of radical initiator, azoisobutyric acid dinitrile 0.2-0.5 wt.%, with concentration of monomers 20-50 wt.% at temperature of 65 °C, during 24 hours; copolymer is precipitated in diethyl ether, activation of copolymer is carried out in aqueous medium with 0.1 N sodium hydroxide, at copolymer concentration 1 wt.% and molar ratio of base to monomer link allilidene diacetate equal to 1:0.1-0.4, wherein copolymer with conversion of 80-55 % comprises allilidene diacetate 10-40 mol% with molecular weight of 9,000-300,000.
EFFECT: this method enables obtaining water-soluble copolymers with high content of aldehyde groups and high yield (of regular structure), with molecular weight adjustable in wide range, which enables their use in various areas of national economy: low-molecular polymers, as carriers of biologically active and medicinal substances, higher molecular weight, as thickeners and creating mesh polymers for biosorbents.
