FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of copolymers of N-vinylamides and unsaturated carboxylic acids. Disclosed is a method of producing aqueous solutions of complexes of copolymers of N-vinylamides with salts of quaternary ammonium bases of unsaturated acids, consisting in that the synthesis of the N-vinylamide copolymer with unsaturated carboxylic acids and the formation of a polymer complex is carried out in a single step in an aqueous solution of a salt of a quaternary ammonium compound at pH=8.0-8.5 and temperature of 60-65 °C, in presence of water-soluble radical initiator and concentration of comonomers in solution of 10-30 wt.%, wherein the N-vinylamides used are N-vinylpyrrolidone, N-vinyl formamide, N-methyl-N-vinyl acetamide, and the unsaturated carboxylic acid is acrylic, methacrylic, crotonic, quaternary ammonium compound is dimethylbenzylalkylammonium chloride, cetylpyridinium chloride.
EFFECT: fewer steps for copolymerisation of N-vinylamides with unsaturated carboxylic acids and simple process.
