SUBSTANCE: variable optical property insert may have surfaces within that have different radii of curvature. Variable optical property insert may also comprise polarising elements. In some embodiments, variable optical property insert may affect polarisation components of light differently and enable a bifocal type ophthalmic device. Energy source is capable of powering variable optical property insert included within ophthalmic lens. In some embodiments, an ophthalmic lens is cast-moulded from silicone hydrogel. Various ophthalmic lens entities may include electroactive liquid crystal layers to electrically control refractive characteristics.
EFFECT: present invention discloses methods and device for preparing an ophthalmic lens with variable optical power.
