FIELD: chemistry; technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vacuum-plasma chemical-thermal technologies of processing materials and articles and can be used in chemical-thermal hardening by nitriding structural articles made from stainless steel in machine building, instrument making, oil and gas, aerospace industries. Method of vacuum-plasma nitriding articles made of stainless steel in low-pressure non-self-maintained arc discharge includes applying negative bias voltage on processed articles in gas-discharge plasma of nitrogen, created by said non-self-maintained arc discharge, wherein said negative bias voltage is supplied in form of a sequence of pulses with pulse amplitude of 100 V, pulse duration 15 mcs and pulse frequency 20 kHz.
EFFECT: high efficiency of vacuum-plasma nitriding steel items of various purposes.
