SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine. Device for applying negative pressure to a wound site, for applying topical negative pressure to a wound site, comprises a source of negative pressure, a processing and a memory. Memory contains instructions configured to, when executed on the processor, cause the apparatus to perform the following steps: attempting to generate a desired negative pressure at the wound site via the source of negative pressure; deactivating the source of negative pressure for a second predetermined period of time if the desired negative pressure has not been generated after a first predetermined period of time; and subsequently attempting to generate the desired negative pressure at the wound site. Wound dressing, intended for generating topical negative pressure at the wound site comprises a gas-tight cover layer for sealing the wound site, wherein the cover layer has an opening and the above device that is connected to the above opening in the cover layer. Method of generating topical negative pressure at the wound site comprises the following steps: attempting to generate the desired negative pressure at the wound site using the source of pressure; deactivating the source of pressure for a second predetermined period if the desired negative pressure has not been achieved; further attempting to generate the required negative pressure at the wound site.

EFFECT: present invention is highly efficient and causes less disturbance of a patient.
