FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of electrothermal acceleration of solid bodies. In compliance with electrothermal acceleration of solid bodies a discharge between rails-current leads moves together with a shell by a partition, what triggers a discharge between the bottom of the shell and the rails. Shell is placed between the conductive rails enclosed in a hull. Hydrogen-containing layer is placed on the rails. Shell bottom is electroconductive. High voltage is applied to the rails, which causes an electric breakdown of the dielectric layer between the rails and the bottom of the shell. Dielectric evaporates, high-temperature gas is additionally heated by the discharge between the bottom of shell and the rails. Gas is expanded giving a pulse to the shell. It moves forward onto new layers of the dielectric, which at its motion will be transformed in series into gas.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is protection of the rails from mechanical erosion and reduced heat losses.
