SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of location of boundaries of formations based on measurements of specific resistance at several depths of tool in a well bore. Method includes obtaining access to a first measurement, derived based on operation of a transmitter and a receiver of a resistivity logging tool at a first depth tool in a well bore, defined in a subsurface region, which includes several subsurface layers; calculation of gradient associated with first depth of tool, wherein gradient is calculated according to a first measurement and a second measurement. Second measurement is carried out based on operation of transmitter and receiver of a resistivity logging tool at a second, other depth of tool in well bore; and determining, by operation of a data processing device, location of boundaries of one or more subsurface layers based on said gradient and first measurement associated with first depth of tool.
EFFECT: high efficiency of detecting position of boundaries of formations.
