FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is method of controlling distance during movement between main vehicle (H) and first vehicle (A) moving in front of main vehicle (H), which moves at certain speed and at said distance to first vehicle (A). Main vehicle (H) comprises distance control system during movement and fuel saving system. Distance in motion control system is adapted to keep distance during movement of not less than minimum safe distance. Fuel saving system comprises automatic speed increase function, which automatically increases speed in case of meeting set of conditions, in order to use main vehicle (H) own kinetic energy for fuel saving. Method includes steps of: sampling data about fact that set of conditions is met and automatic speed increase function actuation is allowed, generating modified safe distance by changing specified safe distance with correcting distance and if distance in motion is less than modified safe distance, adaptation of movement speed unless modified safe distance is achieved, after which actuation of automatic speed increase function may be allowed, and after its actuation replacement of preset minimum safe distance so, that correcting distance was accessible during speed increase function execution. Also disclosed is distance controlling system.

EFFECT: reduced fuel consumption.
