FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a catalyst for synthesis of linear alpha-alcohols containing an even number of carbon atoms, from ethanol, consisting of γ-Al2O3, Cu or Ni and a second metal, characterised by that as second metal it contains Au with following content of components, wt%: Au - 0.05-0.15; Ni or Cu - 0.015-0.1; γ-Al2O3 - balance. Invention also relates to a method for direct synthesis of linear alpha-alcohols containing an even number of carbon atoms, in presence of disclosed catalyst in autoclave reactor at partial pressure of ethanol of 61-100 atm, temperature of 240-295 °C for 1-8 hours with constant stirring and cooling to room temperature while stirring constantly.
EFFECT: disclosed objects increase selectivity and specific capacity on output of linear alpha-alcohols while maintaining high degree of conversion of ethanol.
