FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: present invention provides a separating unit for separation of material in form of a strip on pre-formed weakening lines. Separation unit has a width direction and includes a first roller with a rotational axis, extending in width direction, and width of strip extending in width direction, and a second roller with a rotational axis extending parallel to axis of rotation of first roller, and width of strip extending in width direction. Second roller is located at a certain distance from first roller, said distance extends in a direction perpendicular to width direction. Each of first and second rollers is made with multiple protruding elements spaced apart along axes of rotation and protruding perpendicular from said axes. Each protrusion has maximum width in width direction, maximum radial length from axes of rotation, inner part adjacent to axes of rotation, and an external part remote from axes of rotation. Outer part of protruding elements at first roller are arranged in staggered order relative to external parts of protruding elements at second roller so that, outer parts of protruding elements at first roller are partially overlapped by external parts of protruding elements at second roller with a certain length of radial overlap, which forms a wavy passage for material in form of a strip between rollers.

EFFECT: each protrusion has maximum width along width direction within overlapping length, and sum of maximum widths within overlapping length of all protruding elements on one of rollers ranges from 5 to 30 %, preferably from 12 to 20 % of width of strip of said roller.
