Method for judging whether a unit pixel is included in a character region on a display screen including a plurality of unit pixels, each having three or more primary colour sub-pixels arranged therein, when a pixel of interest is specified, specifying the pixel of interest and a predetermined number of unit pixels adjacent to pixel of interest, as a judgment region. Determining largest of values of primary colour sub-pixels of each unit pixel in judgment region, as a representative value of unit pixel. Based on representative values of unit pixels in the judgment region, judging whether pixel of interest is included in a character region.

EFFECT: wider range of means of judging whether a unit pixel is in character region of a display screen.
