FIELD: information technologies.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding of images. Disclosed is method of encoding images, comprising steps: receiving current signals to be encoded, each of image data processing units; generating of binary signal by binarisation on each of current signals to be encoded; context is selected for each of current signals to be encoded, among multiple contexts; one performs binary arithmetic coding signal using coded information probability associated with the context; and encoded information is updated based on probability of binary signal, wherein, when selecting, context for current signal to be encoded is selected as shared context for signal, which is connected to one of multiple processing units and has size other than the size of processing unit, including current signal to be encoded.
EFFECT: high efficiency of arithmetic encoding.
