FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of alkylating aromatic hydrocarbons with olefins, containing from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, which includes feeding hydrocarbon, olefins and optionally water through cover of fixed-bed reactor operating in mode "trickle flow" regime, containing at least one layer of catalyst containing medium- or coarse-pore zeolite. Reaction temperature inside alkylation reactor is within range of 160-250 °C, and inner pressure is within range from 1 to 10 MPa. In its turn, consumption of reagents in alkylation reactor for is such that it provides WHSV (Weight Hourly Space Velocity), in range from 1 to 8 h-1, wherein working conditions are controlled in order to have a gaseous phase substantially consisting of reagents, and a liquid phase, substantially consisting of alkylation products, wherein both phases pass through catalyst in an even flow. Invention also relates to a method of producing phenol.

EFFECT: use of disclosed method enables to reduce formation of polyalkylated hydrocarbons and other by-products formed in consecutive reactions, also increasing output of reaction.
