FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to catalytic compositions and their use in alkylation catalysts used in methods for alkylating aromatic compounds in order to provide improved yield of the required monoalkylated aromatic compound. A catalytic composition for alkylation of aromatic compounds, containing zeolite having MWW frame structure type and a mesoporous binder, is described, the specified mesoporous binder is mesoporous metal oxide, which has a particle diameter at a median pore size distribution in a sample greater than or equal to 20 mcm, where a particle diameter value is at 50% cumulative distribution (d50), and a pore volume of less than 1 cm3/g, where the specified mesoporous metal oxide is any of the following: aluminum oxide in the form of pseudobemite, amorphous silicon dioxide-aluminum oxide or a combination of two or more of them, where the specified mesoporous metal oxide has an aluminum oxide content greater than or equal to 75 wt.%, and where the specified catalytic composition has a surface area less than or equal to 300 m2/g, determined in accordance with ASTM D4284 standard.
EFFECT: higher yield of the required monoalkylated aromatic compound, such as ethylbenzene or cumene, and fewer undesirable by-products – polyalkylated aromatic compounds, such as diethylbenzene or diisopropylbenzene.
