SUBSTANCE: invention relates to spectral data processing means. Method comprises receiving data for each of multiple standard samples, associated with a particular material and containing a signature of peaks, distributed over entire spectrum, which identifies said material. Compacting spectral data of multiple standard samples for implementation of distribution of combined peaks from multiple standard samples over entire spectrum. Breaking distribution of combined peaks in spectrum into multiple intervals of different size, each of which comprises essentially same number of combined peaks, wherein at least one peak from two or more standard samples. Indexing multiple peaks of spectral data from an unknown sample on intervals of range to obtain a signature of said intervals of range, which includes indexing of each interval of range, including a peak from unknown sample. Generating probabilistic information on matching of spectral data of standard sample with spectral data of unknown sample by means of signature of intervals of range.
EFFECT: technical result is improved accuracy of determining spectral data pattern matching with unknown sample.
