SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding/decoding video. Method of decoding transformation units comprises: determination of hierarchical level for transformation unit within coding unit from separation transformation flags; determination of transformation size of transformation unit for single colour channel; decoding multiple flag values of coded unit from bit video stream for a single colour channel of transformation unit, wherein transformation unit has a plurality of arrays of residual coefficients of colour signal; decoding each of plurality of arrays of residual coefficients of colour signal according to flag value of encoded unit; selection of square inverse transformation for decoded arrays of residual coefficients of colour signal; using selected square inverse transformation to each of decoded arrays of residual coefficients of colour signal to obtain residual colour signal readings for colour channel of transformation unit.

EFFECT: technical result is high efficiency of video coding.
