SUBSTANCE: method for reverse converting a plurality of residual coefficient arrays from a video bit stream configured for a 4:2:2 chrominance format, comprises the steps of: decoding a plurality of residual luminance coefficient arrays, each array corresponding to one luminance unit 4×4 of the plurality of brightness units 4×4, each luminance unit 4×4 is co-located with one conversion unit 4×4 of the set of conversion units 4×4; decoding a plurality of residual chrominance arrays for the first colour channel and decoding a plurality of residual chrominance arrays for the second colour channel, each array corresponding to a chrominance unit 4×4, and each chrominance unit for each colour channel is co-located with two of a plurality of conversion units 4×4; an inverse conversion is applied to each of the decoded set of residual coefficient arrays.

EFFECT: increasing the efficiency of encoding or decoding of arrays of residual coefficients of the video bit stream.
