SUBSTANCE: invention relates to image encoding/decoding techniques. Disclosed is a method of decoding an image. Method includes a step of obtaining prediction mode information of a current unit from a bit stream. Further, method includes receiving motion vector predictor candidates using a unit, co-located with current unit in a time reference frame in direction following in time or direction preceding in time based on obtained prediction mode information. Method also includes obtaining motion vector predictor of current unit from obtained motion vector predictor candidates based on information, indicating a motion vector predictor, used for current unit.
EFFECT: high efficiency of decoding image data due to hierarchical breakdown of image into a plurality of maximum coding units.
