FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method and device for regeneration of particulate matter sensor of a system for reduction of toxicity of vehicle emissions. Method for controlling a particulate matter sensor heater, comprising operating heater to burn off soot accumulated on sensor; and adjusting a heater temperature based on sensor output generated during heater operation. Temperature of heater is controlled depending on sensor output signal after decrease of signal from a value, corresponding to peak level of soot content. Heater is in active state, starting from moment before reaching peak level at moment of peak level and after decrease of signal.

EFFECT: thus, it is possible to optimise control of heater, using already available signal at output of sensor.
