FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to machine building and can be used for machining long edges of metal workpieces by peripheral cutter with at least one helical cutting edge. Workpiece machining surface is arranged with possibility of its simultaneous contact with multiple teeth of peripheral cutter with at least one cutting edge, operating simultaneously in feed direction and located at equal distances. During machining of workpiece all cutting edges are engaged with machining surface at working length of cutter with identical cutting depth. Separation of chips is performed on workpiece length corresponding to distance between adjacent teeth, simultaneously with their movement along working length in direction of feed. For machining tangential sections of bent profiles of rolling surfaces of rails, a stepped tool is used, which comprises at least two peripheral cutters having identical working length, distance between teeth and different diameters, which are arranged on one axis.
EFFECT: providing machining high rate of supply at low cutting speeds, increased durability of tool.
